Co-Trimoxazole Suspension

Co-trimoxazole is a combination of trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole which is widely used for mild-to-moderate bacterial infections and as prophylaxis against opportunistic infections. It is effective in the treatment of many infections, including Pneumocystis Pneumonia In Aids.

Co-trimoxazole is mainly used to treat urinary tract infections. It is also used to certain bacterial infections, such as pneumonia, bronchitis and infections of ears, and intestines. It also is used to treat ‘travellers’ diarrhea.

It is advisable to take this medicine as per prescribed by your doctor. Take this medication by mouth, with or without food. Follow the directions as per given in prescription label.

Co-trimoxazole is a combination of trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole. Trimethoprim exerts its antimicrobial effects by inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial nucleic acids and proteins. Sulfamethoxazole inhibits bacterial synthesis of dihydrofolic acid. Thus, Co-trimoxazole blocks two consecutive steps in nucleic acid & proteins biosynthesis which is essential to many bacteria.
